Russian figure skating champion Petrosyan refused to compete for Armenia

Russian champion in women’s single skating Adelia Petrosyan refused to compete for the Armenian national team. This is reported by Metaratings.

According to the source, the Armenian side contacted the figure skater and her entourage, but Petrosyan intends to stay in Russia and retain her sports citizenship. At the same time, there is a possibility that the parties will return to discuss the issue later.

Petrosyan won the Russian Championship and the final of the country’s Grand Prix last season. The 16-year-old athlete also took silver at the Russian jumping championship.

Russian figure skaters were banned from competing in tournaments under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) in March 2022. The last major competition for domestic athletes was the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
