Pachuca wins Concacaf Champions Cup and guarantees place in the Club World Cup

Pachuca won the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup by defeating Columbus Crew 3-0 in the final, on Saturday, at the Hidalgo Stadium, in Pachuca, and secured a place in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Venezuelan Salomón Rondón with a double, in the 12th and 67th minutes of the game, and Emilio Rodríguez, in the 34th minute, scored the winning goals for the ‘Tuzos’ in this single game final against the American team from Ohio, which competes in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

“Pachuca gave me the opportunity to establish myself and I am Concacaf champion, I am very happy”, declared Rondón at the end of the match. “In addition, I am the tournament’s top scorer (nine goals), but it is the credit of the entire team”, concluded the 34-year-old Venezuelan striker, voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

In this way, Pachuca became Concacaf champions for the sixth time. Previously, he had achieved the feat in 2002, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2017.

The team also became fourth classified by Concacaf for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, along with Mexicans Monterrey and León and American Seattle Sounders.

Uruguayan Guillermo Almada, coach of Pachuca, celebrated qualifying for the next Club World Cup, which will be played in an expanded format with 32 teams.

“Playing in the Club World Cup is one of the biggest goals any football player or coach can have. We will represent Mexico and we will try to do it with dignity,” said Almada during the press conference.

Furthermore, at the end of 2024, the ‘Tuzos’ will participate in the revamped FIFA Intercontinental Cup, featuring the champions of the seven continental confederations.
