INEI: fishing sector grew 158.40% during April

The production of the fishing sector reached an increase of 158.40% in April, reported the INEI in its recent Conjunctural Advance of Economic Activity.

The result is explained by the greater landing of species for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil), reaching 778,000 tons—772,000 tons more than in April of last year.

In the first three months of this year, the fishing indicator suffered drops of 26.75%, 31.26% and 32.48%, respectively, adds the INEI.

Fishing of maritime origin for direct human consumption decreased by 3.74%,
due to lower shipments of species intended for frozen (-11.7%), curing preparation (-7.5%)
and fresh consumption (-0.7%). Fishing of continental origin also decreased (-24.39%), of species intended for consumption in a fresh state, for frozen preparation and curing.

On the other hand, Mining and hydrocarbon production fell 4.34% in April, after a positive first quarter. After 14 consecutive months in blue, metal mining activity fell 4.5% and was influenced by the lower production of copper (-8.2%), zinc (-29.7%) and lead (-1.52%). . The two-day stoppage of the Antamina plant also hit the subsector.

Likewise, the hydrocarbon subsector contracted by 3.6% due to the lower exploitation volume of the three component products: natural gas (-5.4%), crude oil (-4.4%) and natural gas liquids (-4.4%). -1.9%).

Manufacturing followed the same route, which as of March fell 9.63%. The electricity subsector would have increased 1.91% in May and domestic cement consumption—a barometer of construction—grew 7.46% in April.
