The head of the RFU Dyukov refused to attend Euro 2024 due to Russia’s suspension
President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov responded to the invitation to attend Euro 2024. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
Dyukov refused to travel to the tournament due to the suspension of the Russians. “Our players, coaches and the team as a whole were deprived of the opportunity to participate in this tournament. “I thought that from an ethical point of view it would be wrong to go and attend the European Championship matches,” explained the head of the RFU.
Euro 2024 will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14. Ten cities will host the matches. The current European champion is the Italian team.
Russian football clubs and national teams do not take part in international tournaments by decision of FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The restrictions came into force in February 2022.
