The head of the IIHF Tardif announced the dissatisfaction of countries with Russia’s high place in the ranking
President of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif said that other countries are unhappy with the high place of the Russian national team in the world rankings. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Tardif said that the IIHF coordinating committee will propose a rule more adapted to the situation with the suspension of the domestic team. The head of the organization emphasized that not only Finland is dissatisfied with the updated rating.
Previously, the Russian team moved up one place in the IIHF rankings. The team is in second place with 4065 points. The suspended Russians improved their position after the defeat of the Finnish team in the quarterfinals of the 2024 World Cup. Canada leads the ranking with 4,100 points, while the Finnish team is third (3,955 points).
In February, the IIHF extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarus national teams for the 2024/2025 season. The reason for this decision was current security risks.
