On penalties, Al-Hilal beats Al-Nassr in the final of the Saudi King’s Super Cup and reaches the triple crown

This Friday, in a clash valid for the final of the Saudi King Super Cup, Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr drew 1-1 at King Abdullah Sports City. The team led by Jorge Jesus won on penalties (5 to 4) and managed to achieve a historic triple crown.

The goal for the champion team was scored by Mitrovic, while Ayman Yahya found the net for Cristiano Ronaldo’s team. Neymar, injured since October 2023, followed the match from the stadium’s stands.

With the victory, Al-Hilal reached its third title of the season. In addition to the King of Saudi Super Cup, the team was undefeated champion of the Saudi Championship (31 wins and three draws in 34 matches) and the Saudi Super Cup.

Al-Nassr, with the defeat, was left with just one trophy in the sporting year, the Arab Champions Cup. This is the only tournament won by Cristiano Ronaldo wearing the Saudi club’s shirt since his arrival.

The game
The score was opened just seven minutes into the opening stage. After receiving a pass on the right wing, Brazilian Malcom crossed at the second post for Mitrovic, who rose higher than the defender, headed the ball against Ospina and opened the scoring for Al-Hilal.

In the 11th minute of the second half, Ospina, Al-Nassr’s goalkeeper, was sent off after being dribbled by Malcom outside the area and stopping the play by putting his hand on the ball.

In the 42nd minute of the second half, Al-Bulaihi, Al-Hilal defender, attacked Al-Ghanam, received two yellow cards during the confusion and was also sent off.

Al-Nassr’s equalizing goal was scored in the 43rd minute of the second half. Al-Ghanam took a throw-in straight into the area and found Ayman Yahya, who finished with a header and left everything equal.

The third expulsion of the game came in the 45th minute of the second half. With the ball already out of his reach, Koulibaly shot past goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah, received his second yellow card and had to leave the game.

Extra time ended goalless. Therefore, the decision went to a penalty shootout.

On penalties, RΓΊben Neves and Abdulhamid wasted their kicks, while Mitrovic, Kanno, Al-Tambakti, Alhamddan and Al Dawsari converted for Al-Hilal. On Al-Nassr’s side, Alex Telles, Al Hassam and Al Nemer lost, while Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Najei, Ghareeb, Ali Lajami did. With a score of 5-4 on penalties, Al-Hilal became champions of the Saudi King Super Cup.
