Russian weightlifter Ruslan Albegov was stripped of his bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics
Russian weightlifter Ruslan Albegov was stripped of his bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London in the over 105 kilogram category. This was reported on the website of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The award will be given to South Korean Chung Sang-kyun. The athlete will receive the donated medal at a ceremony at the Olympic Park in Paris on August 9.
In the summer of 2019, Albegov was suspended from participation in competitions, accused of violating anti-doping rules. In October 2020, Albegov was suspended for four years by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) based on the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory’s (LIMS) database.
In addition to bronze at the Games in London, Albegov has two gold medals at the World Championships, as well as two victories at the European Championships. The IOC was not informed about the deprivation of these athlete’s awards.
