US coach Sappenfield suspended for life for abuse of skaters
American figure skating coach Delilah Sappenfield has been banned for life. USA Today reports this.
The specialist was accused of physical and psychological abuse of athletes, harassment, abuse of procedures and failure to report potential violations of SafeSport rules. Sappenfield has the right to appeal the disqualification.
In 2021, figure skater Tara Kane spoke out against Sappenfield, accusing the coach of sexual abuse. At the same time, an investigation began due to the residence of a 16-year-old Russian figure skater, whose name was not known, in the coach’s house in the United States with two adult men.
In total, Sappenfield was under investigation for 2.5 years. She previously coached three-time US pairs champions Alexa and Chris Knierim.
