This Saturday, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund face off in the Champions League final, at Wembley Stadium, in England. One of coach Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest doubts is deciding who will be the starting goalkeeper in the decision. On the one hand, Lunin played most of the season and saved the Spanish club in the penalty shootout against Manchester City. On the other hand, the holder of the position, Thibaut Courtois, returned from injury in great shape and is asking for a move. However, the Ukrainian caught the flu and hasn’t trained for days, which could “make the decision easier” for Ancelotti.

According to the Spanish newspaper As, this Wednesday, Lunin trained separately from the rest of the squad so as not to “contaminate” a teammate. The Real Madrid board does not want to take any risks with the final approaching and that is why the goalkeeper will travel separately from the delegation, which leaves for London this Thursday.
Despite having had a solid performance this season, Lunin is likely to lose his place in goal to Courtois, considered by many to be the best goalkeeper in the world. Adding the flu and the fact that he hasn’t trained for a few days, the Ukrainian should be the reserve.
Since returning, Courtois has only been on the field four times, but had excellent performances, especially in the match against Alavés, in the Spanish Championship. The Belgian had a memorable performance in the 2022 Champions League final, when Real Madrid were champions.
