Olympic champion Bestemyanova spoke about the slap in the face from coach Tarasova
Olympic champion in ice dancing Natalya Bestemyanova told how she received a slap in the face from Honored Coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova. Her words are quoted by Soviet Sport.
“When she hit me, it was a psychological trick, in one movement she brought me to my senses, to order,” said Bestemyanova, adding that Tarasova was an affectionate trainer.
Under Tarasova’s leadership, Soviet and Russian figure skaters won Olympic gold medals seven times. Since 2005, the coach has been combining coaching with work as a television commentator.
In May 2022, seven-time Estonian figure skating champion Elena Glebova spoke about the differences in the training of athletes in the USA and Russia. Glebova believed that Russian figure skaters show outstanding results due to the cruel methods of their coaches.
