Goalkeeper of the Russian national team Safonov moves to PSG. One of the richest superclubs in the world offers him a five-year contract

Goalkeeper of the Russian national team and Krasnodar Matvey Safonov flew to Paris. RMC Sport reports this.

According to the source, the footballer will soon undergo a medical examination at Paris Saint-Germain. The club offers him a five-year contract. If the examination is successful, the transfer will be issued no earlier than the start of the transfer window, July 1.

PSG contacted the management of Krasnodar about the transfer

Information about Safonov’s possible transfer first appeared on May 22. It was noted that at PSG the Russian is considered as a backup to the main goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It was clarified that the clubs had agreed on the details of the contract and the funds would be paid in installments.

Safonov did not confirm the news about the transfer to PSG

The footballer himself did not give official comments about the transition. In a conversation with his girlfriend Marina Kondratyuk, he jokingly stated: “Yes, I’m in Paris. I’m already tired of eating croissants.”

Information about Safonov’s possible transfer to PSG was positively received in Russia

Former goalkeeper of Spartak Moscow and the Russian national football team, Alexander Filimonov, admitted that Safonov could take a place in the first team of the Parisian club.

Former Dynamo sports director Roman Oreshchuk, in a conversation with Match TV, suggested that PSG, after signing a contract with Safonov, could loan the goalkeeper for practice. “Safonov definitely needs to go to PSG. Then he will regret it if he refuses,” he noted.

Russian coach Sergei Tashuev also positively assessed the possible transfer. “I think this is a very strong step forward, including for our championship: this is the promotion of our football abroad,” he concluded in a conversation with Soviet Sport.

Safonov has been playing for the main team of Krasnodar since 2019

25-year-old Safonov is a graduate of Krasnodar. In the completed season of the Russian Premier League (RPL), Safonov played 30 matches, in 11 of which he kept his goal intact. Together with the team, he won silver medals in the Russian Championship and was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the season.

Safonov has been playing for the Russian national team since the summer of 2021. During this time, he played 13 matches, including playing at Euro 2020.
