Germany begins preparation for the Euros with open training for 15 thousand people

The German national team began preparations to compete in the European Championship (June 14 – July 14) as hosts with an open training session for the public that was attended by 15 thousand people, this Monday, in the city of Jena, east from the country.

“It was a great opportunity for us to be accessible. It’s very important,” explained the German national team’s sporting director, Rudi Voller.

Around 15,000 fans filled the stands at the Ernst-Abbe stadium, home of Carl Zeiss Jena (4th Division), while 16,000 spectators followed the training session on the German Football Federation (DFB) YouTube channel.

A group of 15 players trained for an hour. Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, Aleksandar Pavlovic and David Raum participated in the warm-up and did separate activities.

At the end of training, players and coaching staff distributed autographs and handed out Euro Cup balls to the fans present.

Of the 27 called up by coach Julian Nagelsmann, several did not participate in this first activity, including the four Champions League finalists: Nico Schlotterbeck and Niclas Fullkrug, from Borussia Dortmund, and Toni Kroos and Antonio Rudiger, from Real Madrid. The game will be played on Saturday, in London.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer remained in Munich due to gastroenteritis and will arrive to join the team on Thursday.

Bayer Leverkusen players Florian Wirtz, Robert Andrich and Jonathan Tah, champions of the German Cup last Saturday, will travel to Blankenhain (where the team concentrates during preparation) on Wednesday, as will captain Ilkay Gundogan, who finished his season with Barcelona on Sunday.

Barça goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen will join the squad next Monday.
