Porto won the Portuguese Cup title this Sunday afternoon, at the Centro Desportivo Nacional do Jamor. In his last match for the club, Iranian Mehdi Taremi, already signed to Inter Milan, scored a 2-1 victory over Sporting in extra time.
Winning the Cup brings at least one title this year for Porto, which didn’t have a great season. After falling in the round of 16 of the Champions League, the team led by Sérgio Conceição finished the league in third place.
Portuguese champion, Sporting had not lost in 11 matches. The team won the national league title, its only one of the season, in advance.

THE GAME
Sporting was the team that tried most at the beginning of the match and managed to open the scoring with defender St. Juste, who rose after a corner kick and finished with a header, 20 minutes into the first half.
Porto responded quickly, 25 minutes into the opening half. Geny Catamo, from Sporting, ended up placing it at the feet of Brazilian Evanílson, who tied the match.
The game would change in the 29th minute of the first half, when St. Juste committed a foul from behind and without the ball on Evanílson, which resulted in his expulsion. Despite their numerical superiority, Porto failed to score and the game went into extra time.
At 10 minutes, from a penalty kick, Mehdi Taremi hit the middle and decided the final. The goal sealed Porto’s victory and secured the 20th Portuguese Cup in the club’s history.
