After being fired from Barcelona this Friday, coach Xavi used his account on Instagram to speak out. An idol as a player, the Spaniard will play his farewell game next Sunday, against Sevilla.
“Dear fans, my time on the Barça bench will end on Sunday. It’s never easy to leave the club of your life, but I do so with great pride, after two and a half years in charge of a dressing room that has been like a second family “, he wrote.
Despite the dismissal, Xavi said that he will continue to support Barcelona and thanked the fans who supported him during the period.
“I want to thank the support and affection of the fans who have always been by my side and have always shown me the same love as when I was a football player. From Sunday onwards I will be another player in the stands. Before being a player or a coach, I am I’m a Barcelona fan and I only want the best for the club of my life, which will always have me at its disposal”, he explained.
Without having won titles this season, Xavi acknowledged that the season was not the best. However, he celebrated his work with the evolution of the club’s athletes, such as Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí.
“This season things didn’t go the way we wanted, but we put our heads together and helped develop a new generation of young players at La Masia [base do clube] who inspire all of us, Barcelona fans”, he said.
According to the Spanish press, to replace Xavi, Barcelona should hire Hansi Flick. The German has been free on the market since last year, when he left command of his country’s national team.
