Striker Oliver Giroud, 37 years old and the top scorer in the history of the French national team, announced in an interview with the newspaper The team published this Friday (24) that Euro-2024 will be his “last competition” wearing the ‘Bleus’ shirt.
“To be honest, it has to be said that this will be my last competition with the French team. Obviously, I will miss it very much. But I think that with Les Bleus it will end after the European Championship (June 14 to July 14 in Germany) We have to make room for young people”, explained the 2018 world champion.

The Milan striker, who will move to Los Angeles FC in the American MLS championship after the Euros, believes he “still has two good seasons” in his career, “but with the French national team, in my opinion, that will end” , he said.
“I’m starting to notice the weight of the years and I’ve been reflecting a lot. Playing every three days is increasingly difficult, especially at this level. I’m not going there (to Los Angeles) for tourism, but I think it’s the right time for me” , continued the player, the scorer of 57 goals for the French national team.
Giroud played the first of his 131 international matches in November 2011, in a friendly against the United States (1-0), months before becoming French champion with Montpellier, his first major title.
With the ‘Bleus’, in addition to winning his second world championship in the 2018 Russian Cup, Giroud also reached the finals of Euro-2016 and the 2022 World Cup.
In that tournament in Qatar, won by Argentina, the French striker broke the record for goals for the national team, which until that moment belonged to Thierry Henry (51).
