Latvian hockey players had 70 euros and a charger stolen from their hotel during the World Cup in the Czech Republic

Hockey players from the Latvian national team were robbed during the World Championships in the Czech Republic. Sport.cz reports this.

A total of 70 euros and one charger were stolen from three hotel rooms in Ostrava. “It’s difficult to find words to explain, because for more than two years we, as a whole team of organizers, have been preparing the championship in the smallest detail and proclaiming that ensuring safety is our priority,” said Irena Shashkova, chairman of the World Cup organizing committee. The incident is being investigated by the police, and the players have apologized.

The Latvian national team took fifth place in Group B and did not reach the playoffs of the World Cup. Earlier, the semi-finalists of the tournament became known: the Czech team will meet with the Swedish team, and Canada and Switzerland will also play each other.

The 2024 World Cup takes place in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic, from May 10 to 26. The national teams of Russia and Belarus are missing the tournament due to sanctions from the International Hockey Federation. In addition, fans were prohibited from bringing any symbols of the two countries into the stands.
