Away from home, Fortuna Dusseldorf beats Bochum and is close to access to the Bundesliga

Fortuna Dusseldorf, third in the German second division at the end of the regular season, beat Bochum, 16th in the first division, 3-0 this Thursday, in the play-offs, earning a place in the German football elite in the 2024-2025 season.

Bochum is, therefore, on the verge of falling and would join the already relegated Cologne and Darmstadt, while Fortuna Dusseldorf is close to the long-awaited promotion, a goal already achieved by St.Pauli and Kiel, the top two in the second division.

The second leg will be played on Monday in Dusseldorf, where the hosts would become the first team from the second division to qualify through this playoff since its reintroduction in the 2008-2009 season.

Fortuna Dusseldorf has achieved good results in recent months and has not lost since the 4-0 defeat suffered in the German Cup semi-finals against Bayer Leverkusen, on April 3. In the second division championship, the last defeat came in February.

This Thursday’s victory in Bochum began with an own goal from Philipp Hofmann in the 13th minute of the first half, before Fortuna Dusseldorf expanded with goals from Felix Klaus, in the 19th minute, and Yannik Engelhardt, in the 27th minute, both in the final stage.
