Ajax announce Francesco Farioli as new coach

Ajax announced this Thursday the Italian Francesco Farioli as its new coach, with the aim of forgetting a bad season in which the traditional Dutch club only managed to finish fifth in the championship, where for some time it even came in last place.

“Ajax has reached an agreement with Francesco Farioli and OGC Nice for the transfer of the coach” for three years, from June 11 to 30, 2027, Ajax said in its statement.

Farioli, 35, arrived in June 2023 at the helm of Nice, whom he led to fifth place in the recently concluded French Ligue 1. At Ajax he will replace John van’t Schip.

“I’m happy to be here, in Amsterdam. Together with all the other members of the technical committee, we will put all our heart into it”, promised the Italian, quoted by Ajax.

The Dutch club will compete in the qualifying phase for the Europa League next season.

The 2023-2024 season did not do justice to the brilliant history of a club that was four-time European champion in the past. It was their worst performance since 1964-1965.
