The Finnish Ski Federation announced the lack of funding for the World Cup

The Finnish Ski Federation announced a lack of funding for the 2029 World Championships. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the organization.

Finland has said it has a €1.9 million debt to the city of Lahti for the 2017 World Cup, which is affecting the bid process for the 2029 tournament. The President of the Finnish Federation, Sirpa Korkatti, said that the country has a strong desire to organize the World Cup, but not at any cost.

In April 2023, the Norwegian cross-country skiing team announced the decision to reduce its roster for the next season due to funding problems. It was noted that the number of skiers in the men’s team will be reduced to 10. The same number of athletes will be in the women’s team, now there are 11.

On October 25, 2023, the Council of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) extended sanctions against Russian athletes. For the first time, restrictions on the performance of Russians at international ski tournaments were imposed in March 2022.
