Figure skaters Geinish and Chigirev submitted documents to join the Uzbekistan national team
Figure skaters Ekaterina Geinisch and Dmitry Chigirev will change their sports citizenship. TASS learned about this.
“Gainish and Chigirev are preparing to compete for Uzbekistan starting next season,” the agency’s source said, adding that the couple has already submitted the documents necessary for the transition.
Gainish and Chigirev formed a duet in 2022. Together they were prize-winners of the Moscow Championship, winners of the Moscow Cup stage, and also prize-winners of the Panin-Kolomenkin Memorial. The couple trains under the guidance of coach Nina Moser.
Previously, a number of Russian figure skaters changed their citizenship. Since May 2023, the dance couple Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin have represented the Georgian national team, for which Anastasia Gubanova also performs. Vladimir Samoilov skates for Poland, Sofia Samodelkina will soon be able to take part in tournaments under the flag of Kazakhstan.
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters cannot take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in other international tournaments.
