Ukraine has made a statement about participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The country’s Minister of Sports Matvey Bedny told RBC about this.
Bedny announced the country’s participation in the Games and said that the fact that athletes participated in competitions under the Ukrainian flag was a great manifestation of willpower. “We must remind you that Ukraine exists and is fighting,” he added.
In December 2023, Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. Athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have ties to the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be able to take part in the competition. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
After this, Bedny spoke about a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games. At the same time, he emphasized that this could threaten sanctions for athletes.
