Saying goodbye to Liverpool, Klopp ends his tenure with eight titles

It was a different day for Liverpool fans present at Anfield last Sunday. After the Reds’ 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton, Jurgen Klopp’s time in charge of the English club came to an end after almost nine years, marked by the victory of eight titles.

Klopp arrived at Liverpool in October 2015 to replace Brendan Rodgers, who had been fired. The German coach was hired with great expectations, after a good job at Borussia Dortmund, where he was twice champion of the German Championship.

Jurgen Klopp’s time at Liverpool was remarkable. The coach led the Reds for 489 matches. He won 298 games, drew 109 and lost 82. In almost nine years, Klopp won with Liverpool an English Championship, a Champions League, a Club World Cup, a European Super Cup, an FA Cup, two English League Cups and an English Super Cup.

At the end of January, Klopp announced via Liverpool’s social media that he would not remain at the club for next season. The German coach claimed tiredness and that he was running out of energy. The coach had a contract until 2026, but chose not to fulfill the remaining period of the agreement.

To replace Klopp, Dutchman Arne Slot was chosen. The German coach himself led the crowd at Anfield to sing Slot’s name, which should be announced by Liverpool in the coming days.
