Argentina announces squad for preparatory friendlies for Copa América

Aiming to compete in the Copa América in the United States in June, Argentina will play two preparatory matches against Ecuador and Guatemala. This Monday, the current world champions announced the squad for these friendlies.

“List of players called up for the two preliminary friendlies that Argentina will play against Ecuador and Guatemala. Let’s go Argentina!”, says the official publication of the Argentine team on X.

Among the names selected by coach Scaloni, the highlight is the star Lionel Messi. The 36-year-old player is still the Hermanos’ main reference and is expected to compete in his seventh Copa América. Another experienced player on the list is Ángel Di María, now at Benfica. Champions in Qatar in 2022, names like Emiliano Martínez, Otamendi and Rodrigo de Paul were also called up.

The friendly against Ecuador will be on June 9th, Sunday, at a time to be determined, at the Soldier Field stadium, in Chicago. The match against Guatemala will be on June 14th, Friday, at a time yet to be confirmed, in Washington DC, capital of the United States.

Argentina is the current champion of the Copa América and is in Group A of the competition, with Canada, Chile and Peru. The Hermanos’ debut is scheduled for June 20th, Thursday, against Canada, at 9pm (Brasília time), at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in Atlanta.
