Champion with Leverkusen, Wirtz is elected best player in the German Championship

This Monday, midfielder Florian Wirtz was named the best player in the German Championship. The 21-year-old was one of the highlights of Bayer Leverkusen’s undefeated national league title.

The German athlete finished the competition with 32 games played, 11 goals scored and 11 assists distributed. Previously, he was chosen as the best player of the month on three occasions (October, December and February).

Wirtz was a key player in Leverkusen’s memorable campaign. In addition to his direct participation in goals, the number 10 also stood out for his dribbling and his ability to create plays. In this way, the midfielder helped the club lift the Bundesliga trophy for the first time and become the only undefeated champion in the competition’s history.

In total, the team led by coach Xabi Alonso won 28 games and drew six. With 90 points achieved, Bayer Leverkusen also had the second best campaign in the history of the German Championship, behind only Bayern Munich, who were champions with 91 points in 2013.

Now, Bayer Leverkusen is focusing on the Europa League final, against Atalanta, which will be held this Wednesday, at 4pm (Brasília time), at the Aviva Stadium, in Dublin, Ireland.
