Newcastle coach says he is “desperate” to keep Bruno Guimarães

Bruno Guimarães scored the goal that closed out Newcastle’s victory over Brentford, 4-2, last Sunday, in the English Championship. After the clash away from home, coach Eddie Howe revealed that he was “desperate” for the Brazilian to remain in the team for next season.

At the goal, Bruno Guimarães celebrated with great enthusiasm with the Newcastle fans, and many saw it as a possible farewell. However, Eddie Howe didn’t see it that way.

“I don’t think it’s goodbye. I think Bruno does that a lot. It could be interpreted that way if people watching decide that’s the case. He’s an integral part of what we’re doing and we’re desperate to keep him.” , he said.

The Brazilian has had great performances for Newcastle since arriving in January 2022, and is attracting interest from other European giants. The midfielder has a contract with the English club until 2028.

Eddie Howe also praised striker Alexander Isak along with the former Athletico-PR player.

“They are two extraordinary players. They can make a difference and have made a difference. The team also gives them all the conditions to play well. They are already adapted to the way we play”, he said.

The match against Brentford was Newcastle’s last of the season. The team ended the English Championship in seventh place, with 60 points.

Called up to defend the Brazilian team at the Copa América, Bruno Guimarães is expected to appear in Orlando, in the United States, on May 30th.
