The leading basketball player of the Kyiv-Basket club, Vadim Zaplotinsky, was detained while trying to illegally leave Ukraine. Sport.ua reports this.
According to the source, this happened on May 12. The 26-year-old athlete, as part of a group of people, tried to illegally cross the border in the Bukovina region, bordering Romania.
Former president of the Kyiv Basketball Federation Max Sergeev said on Facebook (social network banned in Russia; owned by Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation)that after this Zaplotinsky was mobilized. “I was detained by the border service. Then we got acquainted with the territorial recruitment center (TCC) and moved to the training center of the Airborne Assault Forces (ASF),” he wrote.
Zaplotinsky is among the top best basketball players in the country. In the 2023/2024 season, he was recognized as the best defender of the Ukrainian championship. Together with the team, the athlete won bronze medals at the tournament.
