This Saturday, Sevilla announced the renewal of the contract with right-back Jesús Navas, aged 38, until December 31, 2024, the date on which the player will retire.
The athlete, who refused to accept the salary proposal made by the club president, stated that the money will be donated to a foundation.
“Not for a second did I hesitate in responding affirmatively to the proposal made by the president of Sevilla. Yes, I want to stay here. I want to continue playing for my Sevilla team, I gladly accept continuing to be linked to the entity I fell in love with,” he said.
“My wish, and I have already conveyed it to the president, is to continue playing until December to help the team. It will be on that date that I will decide to hang up my boots with the shirt I always dreamed of, dressed as a Sevilla player. One more thing, in these next few months, my last as a professional football player, I will not receive the salary agreed with the president, it will be donated to a foundation. The decision is mine and I communicated all the details to the club’s fans and let transparency guide us”, he added.
Jesús Navas was revealed by Sevilla in 2003. He stayed at the Spanish club until 2013, when he transferred to Manchester City. Finally, his return took place in 2017.
With the team, over the period he won one Spanish Super Cup, one Super Cup, one UEFA Cup, two Spanish Cups, and the second title in the Europa League.
