Captain of the Latvian national team Daugavins said that he would never go to the KHL again
The captain of the Latvian national team, Kaspars Daugavins, assessed the possibility of returning to the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). His words are quoted by Pravda.sk.
“I would never go to Russia to play again. I played in the KHL, I don’t regret anything, but this chapter is closed for me. The situation is what it is, I don’t want to be there and I won’t be,” said Daugavins, calling himself a great patriot and a proud Latvian.
The striker played in Russia from 2014 to 2021. He played for Dynamo Moscow, Torpedo, Spartak and Vityaz. Since 2023, Daugavins has been defending the colors of the Slovak Dukla.
Latvian goalkeeper Janis Kalnins continues to play in the KHL. Since July 2022, he has represented Khabarovsk Amur.
In March 2022, Dynamo Riga, which did not qualify for the KHL playoffs, left the tournament for political reasons. The Latvian club has played in the league since its inception in 2008.
