Parool: Spartak legionnaire Quincy Promes was released from custody in Dubai
Spartak legionnaire Quincy Promes was released from custody in Dubai (UAE). The Dutch publication Parool became aware of this.
The conditions for Promes’ release were not specified. However, the publication’s sources note that usually release occurs on bail. In addition, released persons are prohibited from leaving the country and are required to report and respond to calls from authorities.
Thus, the footballer will await a decision on extradition at large. Promes’ Dutch lawyers Robert Malevich and Sophie Hof declined to comment on the situation.
On February 29, Promes was detained at border control at Dubai airport for being involved in an accident and leaving the scene. Two weeks later, the football player was arrested at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office for possible further extradition. The accident case was closed on May 1.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife.
