As the English newspaper reports The Athletica letter was sent to the Premier League this Wednesday by Wolverhampton (currently 13th), aiming to open a vote to abolish the video referee in the English league.
The Premier League, in an official statement, announced that discussions will be held regarding VAR at the next annual club meeting, which takes place on June 6th. In addition, it encourages democratic voting between clubs to make important decisions within the league.

“The introduction of VAR in 2019/20 was a decision made in good faith and with the best interests of football and the Premier League in mind. However, it has led to numerous unintended negative consequences which are damaging the relationship between fans and the football and undermining the value of the Premier League brand.” – highlighted Wolverhampton in an official letter.
VAR arrived in the English Championship in the 2019/20 season and has been the subject of major controversy since then. Wolves’ main complaints are regarding the lack of spontaneity for fans, who always have to wait to celebrate goals; the large amount of time spent in stoppages to review plays and the misuse of technology by referees, who make mistakes in plays even with VAR at their disposal.
