Hasek about the 2024 World Hockey Championship: no one here misses the Russian team
Olympic champion, two-time Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hasek assessed the 2024 World Hockey Championship without Russians. His words are quoted by Pravda.sk.
“Nobody here misses the Russian team. We are talking about the lives of people that we must protect,” Hasek said. He added that he would be glad when the Russians could return, but at the moment this was not being discussed.
Earlier at the tournament, the Russian team was not shown among the three most titled national teams in the history of the World Championships. The video broadcast included information only about the teams of Canada, the Czech Republic and Sweden. Later, the president of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF), Luc Tardif, called this a mistake.
The 2024 World Cup takes place in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic, from May 10 to 26. The national teams of Russia and Belarus are missing the tournament due to sanctions from the IIHF. In addition, fans were prohibited from bringing any symbols of the two countries into the stands.
