This Wednesday, the president of Vitória de Guimarães, António Miguel Cardoso, confirmed that coach Álvaro Pacheco has left the club. The 52-year-old commander is expected to sign with Vasco in the coming days.
The coach’s departure occurred before the last round of the Portuguese Championship, a fact that angered the manager.
“He leaves at no cost, because he intends to leave three days before the last game of the season. Vitória cannot be held hostage”, he said at a press conference.
António Miguel Cardoso still regretted Álvaro Pacheco’s departure, but stated that Vitória de Guimarães is already looking for a new coach.
“We’re talking to some coaches. Obviously I’m not satisfied, I’m sorry, I would have preferred the season to be over.”
The coach arrived at the European club in October last year. Since then, he has led the team in 32 games, won 18, drawn five and lost nine.
With Álvaro Pacheco at the helm, Vitória de Guimarães secured fifth place in the Portuguese Championship, with 60 points, and could reach 63 in the last round.
