Manchester United announce Raphael Varane’s departure

Defender Raphael Varane will not remain at Manchester United for next season. In an announcement made this Tuesday, the English club confirmed that the player, who has a contract until the end of June, will not renew his contract.

For Manchester United, Varane played 93 matches and scored two goals, in addition to winning the English League Cup in 2023. In the decision at Wembley Stadium, the team beat Newcastle 2-0.

“To all the Manchester United fans, I can say that it has been incredible to play for this club for several years and defend this shirt. It was insane the first time I stepped foot in Old Trafford as a player for this club. I love this team and the fans. To understanding what Manchester United is means having played here. It will always be a special place for me and my children”, said Varane, in a video published on social media.

The 31-year-old signed with United in August 2021, coming from Real Madrid, where he won multiple titles. With the Spanish club, he won four Champions Leagues, four Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and several national titles. As his contract ends, Raphael Varane will be able to join any club for free. In the statement, the Manchester team thanked the professional for the services provided over these three years.

“Everyone at United thanks Rapha for his service and wishes him well for the future,” it was written.
