This decision was made by a court in Catania on Wednesday. The club, founded in 1946, collapsed after 75 years of operation. The acceptance of the bankruptcy petition does not mean, however, that the Catania football team will disappear from the Italian map of clubs in Italy.
The court decided that the team could finish the game in Serie C, in which it is playing this season. Thanks to this, members of the training staff will retain their jobs. The court has also appointed people – accountants and lawyers – who are to lead to the takeover of the company.
Catania Calcio has fallen
However, the new owner will have to change the name of the club, for example to FC Catania. Only after a few years will he be able to apply for the resale of the old name and logo. The new owner will be required to provide an annual financial guarantee of EUR 2.5 million.
Catania Calcio spent 17 seasons in Serie A in its 75-year history. The last time she played in it was in the 2013/14 season. In 1960/61, 1964/65 and 2012/13 the club was 8th in the table, which was the best achievement in history. In 2009-2011, Błażej Augustyn played in Catania Calcio, and in the 2014/15 season, Michał Chrapek was the club’s player.
After 20 Serie C games, Catania Calcio is 10th in the table with 26 points and five points clear of the relegation zone. On Wednesday the team lost to SS Monopoli 0: 2.
