Mbappé is elected the best player in the French Championship for the 5th time in a row

Striker Kylian Mbappé was elected the best player in the French Championship this Monday, for the fifth consecutive time, before his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappé, who on Sunday played his last game at the Parque dos Príncipes wearing the PSG shirt, thus extends his own record as the player who has received the trophy most times handed out by the French professional players’ union (UNFP) since 1994, in which the winners are chosen by the votes of their companions.

Despite having a low-key season for a player of his status, the star vastly outperformed other candidates such as his PSG teammate Ousmane Dembélé and Brest midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou.

Among all the records he already holds, Mbappé could also become the top scorer in the French Championship for the sixth consecutive year.

PSG, French champions for the 12th time in their history, took almost all of the UNFP awards.

Warren Zaïre-Emery was chosen as revelation of the season and Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma as best goalkeeper. The Parisian team also placed seven players in the championship squad.

However, the award for best coach went to Brest’s Éric Roy, who beat Luis Enrique.

Roy arrived at Brest in January 2023 and, after saving the team from relegation last season, led them into European competition this year.

The team is in fourth place in the table and will at least compete in the next Europa League, but still has a chance of securing a direct place in the group stage of the Champions League.
