FHR General Director Kurbatov called IIHF sanctions in the case of goalkeeper Fedotov unfair

General Director of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) Dmitry Kurbatov spoke about the sanctions of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) in the case of goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Kurbatov called the situation unfair and said that the organization would appeal. “Let’s turn to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). We have time. We will defend our rights. Now no one is going to pay the fine imposed by the IIHF,” he emphasized.

On May 8, the IIHF disciplinary committee fined the FHR one million Swiss francs. Fedotov’s performance for CSKA was considered a violation of the rules of international transfers.

On March 29, Fedotov moved to the National Hockey League (NHL) Philadelphia Flyers. Previously, he terminated his contract with CSKA Moscow by mutual consent.

In the summer of 2022, Fedotov’s attempt to move to Philadelphia failed. The Russian was supposed to go to the United States, but he was detained on suspicion of evading military service. After this, the athlete served a year in the Navy and resumed his career at CSKA.
