Real Madrid coach does not rule out Tchouaméni’s presence in the Champions League final

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said this Monday that French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni is not “ruled out” for the Champions League final on June 1st.

The Merengue team will face Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium, in London, and Tchouaméni is doubtful after suffering a “stress injury to his left foot”.

The 24-year-old French national team player was injured in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich. In October last year, he missed Real for six games due to a similar injury.

“He doesn’t have many chances, but he is not ruled out for the final”, declared Ancelotti in a press conference on the eve of the match against Alavés, in the 36th round of the Spanish Championship.

“We have an important week now. He doesn’t have much pain in his foot, I think it’s different from the last problem he had and a return for the final is not ruled out”, explained the coach.

Tchouaméni played a very important role at Real Madrid this season, also playing as a defender to make up for the absence of some of his teammates.

One of them is Brazilian Éder Militão, recently recovered from a serious knee injury, who Ancelotti hopes to count on in full fitness to face Dortmund.

“He needs more minutes and hopefully he can be 100% for the final”, wished the Italian.

Another of the big questions for the decisive game is who will be the starting goalkeeper. Belgian Thibaut Courtois is also returning after a long injury and, during his absence, Ukrainian Andriy Lunin shone in the position.

“Lunin had a great season and Courtois is the best in the world,” said Ancelotti. “We will make the decision the week before the final.”
