Juventus sealed its qualification for the next Champions League this Sunday (12), despite the draw in Turin with bottom and already relegated Salernitana 1-1, thanks to Roma’s 2-1 defeat to Atalanta in Bergamo.
The result could have been worse for Juve if it weren’t for Frenchman Adrien Rabiot’s goal in stoppage time (91′), after Salernitana took the lead by scoring with defender Niccolò Pierozzi in the first half (27′).
This was the fourth consecutive draw for the Bianconero team, who now have a six-point lead over Roma (6th) with two games remaining in the championship. The top five qualify for the Champions League.
In turn, the ‘Giallorossi’ became further away from the main European club competition with the defeat to Atalanta, who established themselves in fifth place with three points of advantage and one game in hand in relation to the team from the capital.
Roma’s defeat also sealed Thiago Motta’s Bologna’s qualification for the Champions League.
‘Dea’, a finalist in the Europa League, will also be Juventus’ opponents in the Italian Cup final next Wednesday.
One point behind Roma is their arch-rivals Lazio (7th), who beat Empoli (17th) 2-0 on the 50th anniversary of their first Italian Championship title in 1974 (the second and last to date was in 2000).
With the defeat, Empoli is in a delicate situation in the championship, and could enter the relegation zone if Udinese (18th) beat Lecce (13th) on Monday.
Hellas Verona (14th) is also not free from the fall, after losing 2-1 at home to Torino (10th).
