Arsenal returned to the top of the table English Championship this Sunday, beating Manchester Unietd, 1-0, at Old Trafford, in the penultimate round. Trossard scored the winning goal for the visitors.
With the result, Arsenal reached 86 points and resumed the lead, which had been taken by Manchester City this Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s team has one unit and one game less than the leader.
Manchester United wasted the opportunity to move up the table. With 54 points, the team occupies eighth place.
Arsenal will only return to the field next Sunday, against Brighton, in the English side. Manchester United faces Newcastle, this Wednesday, in a delayed game of the 34th round of the competition.
The visitors opened the scoring in the first half. In the 20th minute, after United’s mistake, Havertz crossed low for Trossard to deflect the ball into the back of the goal.
After the goal scored, Arsenal held on to the result until the final whistle of the first half. United did little to scare Raya’s goal.
The pace remained the same in the second half. Needing a draw, United tried to propose the game more, but came up against Arsenal’s good defensive system.
The visitors almost doubled the score in the 33rd minute, when Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli finished after a good save by Onana. United’s goalkeeper would make another great intervention four minutes later, following a shot by Rice.
