Russian flags will be taken away from fans at the World Hockey Championships
The International Hockey Federation (IIHF) spoke about sanctions for attempting to bring the Russian flag to the 2024 World Hockey Championship. RIA Novosti reports this.
The IIHF said the flags in question will be removed from the arena. They will be taken away from fans upon entry.
The ban on Russian and Belarusian flags at the World Championships became known on May 8. Fans will be prohibited from bringing any paraphernalia of Russia and Belarus into the stands.
The 2024 World Cup will be held in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic, from May 10 to 26. The current world champion is the Canadian team.
The Russian team will miss the world championship due to sanctions from the IIHF. A number of European federations also refused to call up players from the Kontinental Hockey League to their national teams.
