After qualifying for the Champions League final, Borussia Dortmund visited Mainz this Saturday, at the Mewa Arena, for the 33rd round of the German Championship, and did not do well. With goals from Leandro Barreiro and Jae-Sung Lee (2), the home team won 3-0.
The victory took Mainz out of the relegation zone. The team jumped to 15th place, reached 32 points and surpassed Union Berlin. Dortmund, in turn, remains in fifth place, with 60 points won.
Now, Mainz will only return to the field next Saturday, when they will face Wolfsburg in the 34th and final round of the Alemão. Dortmund will have an appointment on the same day and in the same competition, but against Darmstadt.
With the support of their fans, Mainz started the game with everything and opened the scoring 11 minutes into the first half. Silvan Widmer received a beautiful pass from the right, invaded the area and passed it back to Leandro Barreiro, who didn’t forgive and sent it into the net.
The home team scored the second in the 18th minute. Goalkeeper Meyer went out to play and delivered a gift to Jae-Sung Lee’s foot, who didn’t hesitate and, first time, put his foot into the goal.
It didn’t take long for the third to come out. At 22, Leandro Barreiro broke through on the right and found Jae-Sung Lee free inside the area. Once again, the South Korean did not forgive and increased the score for Mainz.
