Leaving Chelsea “wouldn’t be the end of the world”, says Pochettino, threatened in his position

Chelsea’s Argentine coach, Mauricio Pochettino, minimized the impact of his eventual departure from the London club at the end of the season, and denied rumors that he would be leaving. The coach has been criticized throughout a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge.

Faced with growing rumors that he could be fired by Chelsea’s owner, American Todd Boehly, Pochettino also took the opportunity to give his point of view on his future.

“If we’re happy, it’s perfect, but it doesn’t just depend on the board being happy, because we also have to be. Maybe this isn’t happening and we need to separate. It wouldn’t be the first time that a coaching staff has decided not to continue. Tomorrow I could say I’m leaving,” he said.

“It’s a decision made by two parties, not just if Chelsea aren’t happy, if the owner isn’t happy or if the sporting director isn’t happy. Maybe we’re not happy because we came here with a job to do, but in the end we’re not happy. It was what we expected. It won’t be the end of the world,” he added.

Boehly has already fired German Thomas Tuchel and Englishman Graham Potter since his consortium bought Chelsea in 2022.

The Blues occupy seventh place in the Premier League after a very irregular season. With two rounds to go, they are fighting to secure a place in a European competition.
