Atalanta eliminated Olympique de Marseille by win at home 3-0 this Thursday (9), for the return leg of the Europa League semi-finals, a week after the draw in the first leg, at the Vélodrome stadium (1-1) in the south of France.
The Bergamo team, which is currently fifth in Serie A, thus secured its place in the final of the second most important European club tournament. It will be on May 22nd, in Dublin, Ireland, against Bayer Leverkusen, who also this Thursday eliminated Roma with a 2-2 draw in Germany (2-0 victory in the first leg).
This will be the first decision in Atalanta’s history in one of UEFA’s club competitions.
Until then, his best performance in a European tournament was the semifinals he reached in 1988 in the now extinct European Recopa.
He only has one major title in his record, the 1963 Italian Cup.
This could change in the coming days, as even before the Europa League final, Atalanta will play another final: the Coppa Italia against Juventus on Wednesday next week.
