Svishchev said that WADA wants to dissuade athletes from participating in the Friendship Games
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev responded to the statement of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) about the danger of participation in the Friendship Games. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
Svishchev called such statements another attempt by the West to dissuade athletes from participating in the tournament. “The organization of tournaments in our country has always been at the highest level. There is no reason to worry. If WADA does not agree to provide anti-doping laboratories, then we will definitely find other options,” he noted.
WADA previously said that health and fairness towards athletes at the Friendship Games could be jeopardized. They added that the concern stems from the inability to vouch for the anti-doping program that may exist at competitions.
Director General of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency Veronika Loginova announced the refusal of some foreign laboratories to accept samples from athletes from the Friendship Games.
