Huseynova said that she changed her citizenship to Israeli in order to perform
The winner of the European Youth Dressage Championship, Anna Guseinova, explained why she decided to change her Russian sports citizenship to Israeli. Her words are quoted by Sport Express.
According to the rider, she wanted to continue competing at international competitions. “In fact, everything is very simple. My entire family has had dual citizenship for many years, since our roots are in Israel. This is how it happened historically,” she explained.
Huseynova also told how the fans reacted to her decision. “Those with whom I maintain contact in Russia, including my fans, support my decision. Everyone says: the main thing is that you have the opportunity to continue performing and grow as an athlete,” said Huseynova.
The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has suspended Russians from tournaments in the spring of 2022. A year and a half later, athletes were allowed to compete in a neutral status.
