Olympiacos beats Aston Villa and will face Fiorentina in the Conference League final

At the Karaiskákis Stadium, Olympiacos qualified for the final of the Europa Conference League, this Thursday, by defeating Aston Villa 2-0, and will face Fiorentina in the final on May 29, in Athens (Greece), in the Agia Sophia stadium.

The hero of this semi-final was Moroccan Ayoub El Kaabi. Author of a hat-trick In the first game (the Greeks won 4-2 in England) he shone again and scored both of his team’s goals this Thursday.

The Piraeus team’s players started perfectly, opening the score after just 10 minutes.

Just as had happened in the first leg, the English team led by coach Unai Emery dominated in vain. They almost didn’t create clear opportunities, like Moussa Diaby’s shot in the 41st minute, who failed to take advantage of his team’s best chance at the end of the first half, when his partner Matty Cash was free in front of the goal.

El Kaabi closed the English team’s box in the 33rd minute of the second half, with a shot that went between the goalkeeper’s legs. VAR took a while to validate the goal due to the Moroccan’s dubious position, almost offside. But the favorable decision guaranteed the Greek team in the final.

Olympiacos’ success is historic, as it is the first time that the club, champions of Greece on 47 occasions, has reached the final of a European competition.

The only Greek team that had achieved this was Panathinaikos, who lost the final of the European Cup (now the Champions League) to Johan Cruijff’s Dutch side Ajax in 1971.

Playing in Athens in a single game, Olympiacos will face Italy’s Fiorentina, who qualified on Wednesday after drawing 1-1 at the end of the match against Club Brugge, after winning the first leg 3-2 in Florence. .
