Bytyrshina, after Tikhonov’s disqualification, said that women should not be insulted
Five-time world champion in rhythmic gymnastics and Olympic silver medalist Yana Batyrshina appreciated the disqualification of Yenisei head coach Andrei Tikhonov, who criticized the female referee Vera Opeikina. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
The ex-athlete said that a man should not allow himself to make offensive remarks about women. “Neither in life, nor in public space. Humiliation of women is not permissible even among themselves,” Batyrshina said.
The former gymnast also discussed the inequality of women and men in society. “It will remain, perhaps, until some serious fines or criminal penalties are introduced for insulting women,” Batyrshina added.
Tikhonov was disqualified for one match. On April 20, Enisey lost away to SKA-Khabarovsk with a score of 0:3. Opeikina’s referee team worked at the game. After the meeting, Tikhonov criticized the referee and called for her to be sent to Makhachkala to train.
