The Appeal Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has upheld Atlético de Madrid’s appeal and annulled the partial closure of the Civitas Metropolitano stadium for two games and a fine of 20,000 eurosimposed by the Disciplinary Committee on April 30.
The closure of the stadium and the fine to the Madrid club occurred after on matchday 33, in the match against Athletic Club, a fan from the cheering stands uttered a I scream imitating the sound of a monkeydirected at the red-and-white Nico Williams, according to the arbitration report.
Atlético argued its lack of responsibility in the incident, after having adopted all the required prevention measures and the fact that the person responsible for the chant was located by the stadium cameras, monitored by the UCO, who was identified and proposed for sanction by the National Police at the end of the game.
Appeal affirms in its ruling that, from a point of view of the diligence required of the organizing club, Atlético de Madrid “has deployed, both from the point of view of prevention and reaction, measures that demonstrate behavior of the greatest possible diligence, without being able to appreciate the existence of other measures that could have been adopted to avoid such events (preventive measures). or mitigate its severity (reactive measures)“.
“Consequently, in light of the preventive and reactive measures adopted by the organizer, this Committee concludes that the Club acted with the greatest possible diligence, therefore meeting the assumption of exoneration of responsibility provided for in article 15 of the Disciplinary Code. The appeal is upheld, revoking the contested agreement and annulling the financial penalty of 20,000 euros and the partial closure of the sports venue for two matches.“, Add.
A few days ago, Atlético de Madrid announced that it had provisionally suspended, for an indefinite period, the status of paid member of the entertainment stands of the author of the incident while his case is resolved in the competent sanctioning bodies.
