Muller criticizes refereeing after Bayern’s disallowed goal: “This happens very often in Madrid”

Striker Thomas Muller criticized the refereeing of the duel between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, which ended 2-1 (4-3 on aggregate) for the merengue team, this Wednesday, at the Santiago Bernabéu, in the return of the semi-final of the League of Champions. The Bavarian club’s disallowed goal in the final minutes would take the game to extra time and caused several complaints from the Germans.

“The referee didn’t go and see the images. He didn’t give himself the opportunity to see them. It’s very strange, in a situation like that, to blow the whistle so quickly,” he told RMC Sport.

Bayern Munich scored their second goal in the 13th minute of added time in the second half, with Matthijs de Ligt, when the match was 2-1 for Real Madrid. However, even before the play ended, referee Szymon Marciniak flagged full-back Noussair Mazraoui for offside, signaled by one of his assistants, and the goal was disallowed.

However, it is possible to see that the German club’s athletes involved in the move were in a legal position, as defender Antonio Rudiger was ahead of them.

Muller also recalled the clash with Real Madrid in the 2017 quarter-finals to criticize the refereeing. On that occasion, Cristiano Ronaldo scored three goals in the match and the Merengue club advanced after winning 4-2. That year, Bayern Munich also complained about the referee’s decisions.

“This happens very often here in Madrid. I experienced it a few years ago, with two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo. But that was before VAR,” he said.

Now, with no chance of a title this season, Bayern Munich takes to the field this Sunday, at 12:30 pm (Brasília time), against Wolfsburg, at the Allianz Arena, in the penultimate round of the German Championship.
