Julia organized a wedding without meat. Uncle decided to bring his own sausage

Modern weddings often differ significantly from those organized a dozen or several dozen years ago. Young people often decide to party without meat or alcohol. Not everyone likes their choices and they are met with harsh criticism. Several people shared their experiences with us.

Edyta attended her cousin’s wedding last year. Even though she herself remembers this event very positively, there were many critical voices in the family. All because… lack of meat. – My cousin and her husband are vegan. They don’t hide it, they even boast about it. So I don’t understand where this surprise and outrage comes from, says our interlocutor. There were many vegan and vegetarian dishes at the wedding. The latter were a tribute to people who might complain about the lack of meat. But that didn’t help.

“Soon there will be worms instead of meat”

After the event, many guests were dissatisfied. – One of the uncles commented that what kind of wedding is it if he will have to make dinner at home after the party? Someone else said that soon, instead of meat, the young people would serve worms to their guests. It was shortly after the right-wing media started spreading Putin’s propaganda and various politicians took photos with pork chops, recalls Edyta.

As our interlocutor points out, in her opinion the food at the party was fantastic. – Even though I am neither a vegan nor a vegetarian, for me it was one of the best weddings of my life in terms of cuisine – she sums up.

My uncle wanted to bring sausages to the wedding

Julia has similar experiences. Two years ago, she and her husband organized a meat-free wedding. It was a party in the forest, in the bosom of nature. One of its elements was a bonfire. – One of my uncles said that if there was a bonfire, he couldn’t imagine it without sausages. We said there would be a whole bunch of other things for the barbecue, but my uncle said he’d bring his own sausage to our wedding and that’s it. The father had to intervene, but the uncle sat there, offended, and eating a potato in disgust – our interlocutor recalls. – Previously, I didn’t realize that for people, one evening without meat could turn out to be such a serious problem – she adds.

They said that the young people “were lost in their heads”

Łukasz and his wife decided to have a humanist wedding. After some time, he learned that this idea had caused considerable controversy in his family. – Many people, especially from the older generation, did not know what it was all about. Of course, there were comments that it was “not God’s way” and that the young people were now “going crazy”. Fortunately, no one ran away or made any noise during it. I only heard that there were a lot of rumors about it later – recalls Łukasz.

They asked the DJ to intersperse Rihanna with Zenek Martyniuk

Music may also be a problem for some people. As Marzena says, a large part of her family comes from Podkarpacie. However, she and her husband have been living in Warsaw for years. Five years ago they decided to have a boho wedding. Instead of a band, there was a DJ. And it was the music that turned out to be a bone of contention. – While eating, the DJ played smooth jazz, and then hits of American bands. Many people were offended. My dad even wanted to leave the party because he felt offended and disrespected, he recalls. Eventually, she and her husband found a solution. – We didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable, so we finally asked the DJ to intersperse Rihanna with Zenek Martyniuk – he ends his story. Dreams.
